Community Garden Day

The morning of Saturday, September 17 was gray, with heavy cloud cover and a few drizzles. Despite the chill, gardeners across the Twin Cities set up their celebrations, preparing for Community Garden Day. And then, around noon, it was as if the weather suddenly remembered what day it was. Clouds lifted! The sun came out! It was a beautiful, beautiful day in the gardens. The community celebrated: beginning at 9 in the morning and going strong until 7 in the evening, gardeners gathered, ate, made music, and enjoyed one another.

We, at Gardening Matters, are so grateful to each and every one of the gardens who participated. We were honored to spend time in so many of these gardens, and to share such a magnificent day with so many people. We saw a senator! We saw a city councilperson! We saw folks from one garden visiting another garden in a completely different part of the city!

Take a peek at all the pictures we snapped throughout the day on our flickr page. And if you have photos of your own that you’d like to share, please email them to us!

We already can’t wait for next year.
